7 Things to Do When You Suspect Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome

Your adrenal glands produce a variety of important hormones, such as: estrogen, progesterone, steroids, and cortisone, as well as various chemicals such as adrenalin (epinephrine), norepinephrine, and dopamine. When the glands produce more or less hormones than required by the body, disease conditions may occur.

In addition to these, your adrenal gland is a source of cortisol, the hormone which helps your body deal with stress. According to the adrenal fatigue theory, if your life is too stressful, your adrenal glands may not pump out enough hormones, leading to a wide variety of symptoms.

Adrenal Fatigue Symptoms

While additional research is required to classify adrenal fatigue as a recognized medical condition, current theory on the syndrome defines a group of fatigue-related symptoms that may result from the lack of the hormones mentioned above:

  • Difficulty getting out of bed, even after extended sleep
  • Persistent tiredness, even after you wake up in the morning
  • Trouble with mental focus and thinking clearly, or finishing your tasks
  • Problems coping with stress
  • Food cravings, especially salty foods
  • Inflammation and a weakened immune system
  • High energy in the evening, despite fatigue during the day

The skepticism over adrenal fatigue as a medical condition arises from the fact that many of these symptoms are common to other health problems, such as: anemia, arthritis, diabetes, depression, heart disease, and even poor nutrition and stress. However, this does not preclude the possibility that an adrenal hormone imbalance may also contribute to the symptoms.

Natural Healing for Adrenal Fatigue

Now, based on what I’ve seen and experienced in my practice over the past 25 years, I do believe that adrenal fatigue is a medical condition that can be treated without prescription medication. Here are the 7 things I suggest you should do when you suspect that you may be suffering from Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome:

  1. Dump the wheat, dairy, corn and soy
  2. Wean off the caffeine
  3. Booze be gone
  4. No technology 1 hour before bed
  5. Lights out at 10 pm
  6. Take 10 minutes daily feeling gratitude
  7. Meditate

With all of that said, many other conditions can overlap the above noted signs and adrenal fatigue symptoms, so know that adrenal imbalance is not always the root cause.

Instead of trying to diagnose your own health problems, consult with a practitioner who specializes in alternative medicine to determine if you are suffering from adrenal fatigue syndrome.
