Ewwww sounds awful, right? What exactly is Leaky Gut and what does it mean to have it?
Leaky Gut is a condition that occurs when undigested and unrecognizable particles pass through the permeable lining of the intestine into the bloodstream. In a normally functioning intestine, the digested food passes through the intestinal walls into the bloodstream to nourish the body. The waste products that the body no longer needs pass through the intestines and produce a bowel movement. The difference between the healthy and the damaged intestine is that in the healthy intestine the particles that pass through the intestine into the bloodstream are digested. In the damaged intestine, the particles are undigested. When the intestine is extremely damaged, the person begins reacting to all foods whether they are healthy, unhealthy, digested or undigested.
When leaky gut is an issue, undigested food particles pass through the gut lining into the bloodstream. The body believes it is being invaded so the body launches an attack.
Some experts believe that leaky gut can be the cause of allergies, irritable bowel syndrome, irritable bowel dysfunction, asthma, arthritis, inflammation, other auto immune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia, skin breakouts, rashes, weight gain, headaches, low energy, and chronic fatigue.
How on earth does one GET Leaky Gut? The main causes include poor diet, excessive, ongoing, chronic stress, toxins in the diet and the environment, bacteria, and medications.

The foods that must be eliminated are wheat, dairy, corn, soy, eggs, all processed food, sugar, all non-organic foods, all GMO foods, excessive caffeine and alcohol. It is also possible to be senstive to healthy foods. A specific, individualized elimination diet can help reveal unusual food sensitivities. Some people thrive on a vegan diet while others need small amounts of high quality animal protein in order to thrive.
